is a nice Buffet Super Dynaction that we just repadded. We reused the
original metal screw in resonators – they screw in to the back of the
actual pad cup. The body tube is in very nice shape and retains almost
all its original lacquer. The neck is also in excellent shape but has
only about 10% of its original lacquer remaining. It doesn't show any
evidence of past repairs and one can speculate that the lacquer came
off either by the neck being stored in a separate from the horn with a
resulting lacquer damage or the lacquer was removed on purpose (again,
perhaps because of lacquer damage...). Besides the original neck strap
hook, there is an additional neck strap hook installed. This was done
to allow the horn to hang in a more ergonomically relaxed position.
The horn has a clear and colorful sound. There is a
focused and compact tone feel that holds the center of the pitch very
tightly in a way that reminds me of a modern horn (think
Yamaha/Selmer). It is in the middle of the bright/dark tonal spectrum
and has a tight and even scale throughout the range.
